PowerPoint Presentation Design

Making a good presentation with PowerPoint

PowerPoint is the tool of choice for presenters at conferences, events, exhibitions and meetings. Whilst there are more sophisticated packages out there, PowerPoint is the easiest to manage and update especially for last minute changes on site.

Here are a few pointers to creating a presentation that has impact.

Identify your objectives: What are your key messages?
What specific knowledge do you want your audience to walk away with?

Consider your target audience. What can you do to ensure that your presentation appeals to them?

Sketch out your PowerPoint slides with headings and no more than 6 points per slide. If you put too much information on a single slide it becomes difficult for the reader to absorb. Less is more!

Consider the flow of the information. There should be a clear introduction, followed by information building to a conclusion. Your final slide should be a summary reiterating the key points of your agenda.

Add depth. Select some relevant images to break up the slides and introduce colour. Illustrate particular points or products and add graphs and diagrams to support yout data.

Try to ensure that you have a memorable opening and a strong close.

Be prepared to answer questions. Have a 'holding' slide at the end of your presentation to display whilst you do this.

Compile your notes with cues for when to change slides, if necessary.

Try to rehearse the full presentation in situ and take a note of the time it takes.

Ask a colleague for feedback on your voice clarity and posture. For presentation purposes, it is essential to take a deep breath and compose yourself at the outset and speak slightly slower than usual to ensure clear delivery.

Consider your body language: Try not to move around too much unless it is essential to your presentation. If possible retain a relaxed, but upright stance with shoulders back and head up.

If you have a long presentation, you may want to give yourself some time markers to ensure that you keep your delivery on schedule.

A well designed PowerPoint template will give your message professionalism and credibility. At Inca Creative we aim to create a visual 'platform' for your message that reflects your company corporate identity, appeals to your audience and is visually stimulating and easy on the eye.
