The pilgrimage to Macchu Piccu served to raise funds and awareness for the National Deaf Children's
Society and on a personal level fufilled Steven's ambition to retrace the steps of the ancient Inca's to see
the breath taking beauty of 'The Lost City'.
Macchu Picchu (which means "manly peak") is located high in the Andes Mountains in Peru,
43 miles from Cuzco. It was built between 1460 and 1470 AD by Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui, an Incan ruler, at an
altitude of 8,000 feet. At this height the trek is demanding and not for the unfit, not least because of the
altitude.
Steven put in significant training before setting off on his quest and took the 12 hours a day
hike in his stride. At the conclusion of his journey Steven came to see us to recount his stories and show
us the pictures of his visit. "After several days of continuous trekking, finally seeing Macchu Picchu
was an almost spiritual experience and well worth the effort."
Steven hopes to undertake further adventures in the future - all for a good cause. If you would like to
